VA Issues Rule Recognizing APRNs as Full Practice Providers in VA Facilities

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) issued a final rule granting veterans direct access to care by advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who work in the VA health system.  The rule, which was published in the Federal Register on December 14, 2016, amends the VA’s medical regulations “to permit full practice authority of three roles of VA advanced practice registered nurses when they are acting within the scope of their VA employment,” according to a summary issued by the VA.
