Safety Alerts from CDC and FDA Regarding NTM Infections Associated with Heater-Cooler Devices

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued safety alerts regarding the potential risk of non-tuberculosis mycobacteria (NTM) infections associated with the use of heater-cooler devices in patient care. The CDC issued a guidance document to alert health departments, health care facilities, and health care providers of the possible association between NTM infections and the use of heater-cooler devices while the FDA released a Safety Communication that addresses the proper use and maintenance of these devices.
