ANNA is a partner in the Performance Excellence and Accountability in Kidney Care (PEAK). This voluntary quality improvement campaign was initiated by Kidney Care Partners and the kidney community to reduce mortality among first-year dialysis patients on a national level.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has created resources for frontline dialysis staff that address best practices for preventing bloodstream and other infections in hemodialysis outpatients. The resources include a video along with an accompanying poster for staff and pocket card for patients. ANNA served as a resource in the development of the video, and the following ANNA members served in advisory roles:
On August 30, 2013, ANNA submitted a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding the Proposed Rule: Changes to the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Prospective Payment System (PPS) for Calendar Year (CY) 2014 (CMS-1526-P), which was released on July 8, 2013.
On July 12, 2013, the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality / Survey & Certification Group within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a memorandum clarifying the responsibilities of ESRD facilities to comply with the National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code (LFC) 101. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has partnered with several other organizations to develop an interactive online course on workplace violence prevention for nurses and direct-care health care professionals. Workplace violence incident videos and nurse testimonials are incorporated throughout the course to enhance the learning experience, and continuing education is available.
